Everyone likes jokes. Right? Getting everyone to laugh is a good thing. Right? Not necessarily. It is important for employees to feel comfortable within the workplace environment and most companies encourage joy and laughter among their employees. However, it is never acceptable to laugh at the expense of others. What you may consider funny may not be funny to someone else. Especially when the joke physically or emotionally may hurt another person. This type of behavior is unacceptable. Any action or activity that has the potential to hurt or offend someone is called horseplay.
Examples of horseplay are:
1. Using equipment inappropriately
2. Walking in a silly manner
3. Making silly expressions or noises
4. Telling jokes
5. Any thing else that is not work related and can offend somebody
Companies want their employees to feel safe and comfortable at all times. When you do not like what someone is doing or saying, please remove yourself from the situation and immediately tell your supervisor. Employees should be safe and respectful of others at all times. Enjoy your work and be kind to the people you work with.
